Shafik Sachedina was born in 1950 in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. After leaving his birthplace, he moved to and settled in England, eventually becoming a British National.
Shafik is a graduate of the University of London’s Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School. After graduating from dental school in 1975, Dr. Sachedina began practicing as a dental surgeon. He has spent several years as a practicing dental surgeon in England, earning a reputation as one of the best in his field among his superiors, colleagues and patients.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina did not limit himself, his energies and his skills to only his career as a dental surgeon. He has established a strong presence in the healthcare community at large as well. Shafik holds positions at an impressive collection of healthcare companies, most notably the Sussex Health Care company. The Sussex Health Care company is based in South England’s Sussex County. It owns and operates a multitude of facilities throughout the region that are dedicated to providing care for disabled and elderly individuals. At present, Dr. Shafik Sachedina is a Joint Chairman for the Sussex Health Care company.
In addition to his career as a dental surgeon and his role as an active member of the healthcare community, as is tradition, Dr. Shafik Sachedina is also an integral part of several volunteer organizations involved in assisting and empowering those within the Ismaili community. Dr. Sachedina is a member of the Board of Governors of The Institute of Ismaili Studies. He is also heavily involved with the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan at Aiglemont in France, where he is the Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions. His responsibilities include interfacing with the institutions of the Ismaili communities throughout Central Asia as well as the Aga Khan Development Network programs. Shafik also coordinates programs and activities for each of the Ismaili community institutions in the region.
